How to audit your platform content for relevance and freshness
Keeping your community platform content up to date is just as important as adding new content. Over time, services change, events expire, and group activities evolve. A regular content audit helps ensure your platform reflects what’s currently available and useful for your community today—not what used to be.
Why content audits matter
Help users find what they need now
Outdated information creates confusion and frustration.
Support content quality
Fresh, relevant listings build trust and make your platform feel alive.
Keep your structure tidy
A clean directory makes navigation and discovery easier.
How to audit for outdated or irrelevant content
1. Identify inactive or expired content
Flag anything:
- With past dates (events or time-sensitive projects)
- That hasn’t been edited in 6–12 months
- Referring to COVID-era or emergency-only services
- That references outdated programmes or contact details
2. Review for tone, formatting and relevance
Are listings written clearly and accessibly? Do they reflect the current community context, priorities or seasons?
3. Contact members to update their listings
Give members a chance to update their content, or archive it if it’s no longer relevant.
4. Highlight the most relevant, seasonal or useful content
Curate up-to-date listings and feature them on your homepage, newsletter or social posts to reward active contributors.
