Make an exchange

Watch this tutorial to understand how to manage your timebank exchanges. There are two different processes available to you depending on whether you added an offer or request first, or exchanged offline.

Get started:

These instructions are based on the timebanking exchanges where you are connected with another member through the platform via either a 'request' or 'offer' activity.

If someone has offered to help with your request, or has requested your help from your offer, you will receive an email.

Then, follow these steps:

  • Sign in to your platform.
  • Select ‘Notifications' from the main menu.
  • Locate the new notification and click/tap to open it.
  • 'Step 1' asks you to accept or decline the offer/request from the other member.
  • When ready, decide to 'accept' or 'decline' via the buttons (you can message the other member before deciding).
  • Once you accept the exchange, you can now proceed to 'step 2'.
  • Talk to the other member and arrange the exchange. You can use the on-platform messaging function, or get in touch with them another way if they've provided contact details.
  • After you have completed the exchange, the credits need to be exchanged.
  • Either of you can complete this. Use 'step 3' to confirm the amount of credits to be exchanged.
  • This exchange is now completed.

You can use the 'repeat exchange' button if you want to exchange again.

If you have exchanged with another timebank member without creating an offer or request first, you'll want to use the 'record an exchange' form.

  • Use the main menu to navigate to your dashboard (you may have a quick link to 'record an exchange' from the main menu too).
  • Use the dashboard navigation to go to 'timebank' and then 'record an exchange'.
  • There will be several options to choose from first, depending on the type of exchange you're recording.
    • If you gave time, you'll be recording an exchange in order to receive credits yourself from other member(s).
    • If you received time, you'll be recording an exchange in order to send credits to the member(s) who helped you.
    • If you are a coordinator, you will be able to record an exchange on behalf of other members. This form allows you to record exchanges between just 2 members, or a large group.
  • Once you have selected the right type of exchange, the form will prompt you to 'add member(s)'. Search for their name and click or tap to select them.
  • Choose the amount of time they gave/received and save.
  • You can now add multiple other members here in the same way if needed.
  • Give the exchange a short description (eg. Help with my garden).
  • Choose any relevant tags that apply to the exchange (this helps the platform admins record how many timebank exchanges happen for different things).
  • Click/tap the 'save button'.
  • The credits will now have been exchanged.
