Connecting people, communities and services in Warrington

Living Well Warrington promotes health and wellbeing across the town by helping people make meaningful connections, find local support and take simple steps to look after themselves based on what matters to them.

Living Well Warrington has been highly commended in the Integrated Care Initiative Award at the HSJ Awards 2025.

Connecting people, communities and services in Warrington

The challenge

Warrington faces significant health inequalities.

Residents in the most deprived neighbourhoods can live more than 10 years less than those in wealthier areas. Many of these communities sit side by side, exposing contrasts in opportunity and wellbeing.

Healthy life expectancy is around 65 years, compared with an overall life expectancy of 80.

The number of people aged 65 and over is set to increase by 50% in the next 20 years. This will significantly increase demand for already overstretched health and social care services.

Even before the pandemic in 2020, there was high demand for health and social support in Warrington.

The pandemic then made an already difficult situation worse, increasing pressure on services and widening existing health inequalities.

NHS teams are stretched, local organisations are under-resourced and the rising cost of living adds further strain on people and families. In many ways, it's a perfect storm.

Living Well aims to tackle these challenges by focusing on prevention, early support and building community resilience, helping people take control of their own wellbeing.

Central to this mission is creating a widely recognised local brand, reducing reliance on primary, secondary and social care services, and promoting a community-led approach that makes support more accessible and proactive.

A reliable and relatable digital resource, designed to complement the Living Well Hub in the town centre, forms a key part of this approach.

Living Well Warrington connects residents to the services, activities and information they need.

The challenge

Our solution

Our platform supports an integrated, multi-channel approach.

Alongside the Living Well Hub, Living Well Warrington is a digital platform that makes it easier for residents, community builders and healthcare professionals to find local services, support and information.

The platform features an integrated directory, tailored resources for those at higher risk, community-based content and self-service tools that help people take control of their wellbeing.

Behind the scenes, it includes reporting tools that allow partners to track the platform’s impact on the community.

The Living Well Hub opened in March 2024 in Warrington town centre.

The three-storey building brings together over 35 partner organisations and more than 350 staff, including NHS clinicians and voluntary sector groups.

It offers flexible support, from drop-in café sessions and a welcoming reception to clinical rooms upstairs.

In its first year, the Hub welcomed over 15,000 visits and provided around 70 services, including blood testing, dementia support, maternity care and community advice.

Living Well partners also deliver services in people’s homes and communities, to ensure they are reaching everyone including the most vulnerable.

In 2023, Warrington’s community partners set out to find a technology provider to help create a platform that would complement the physical Living Well Hub in the centre of town.

After a thorough selection process, they chose Made Open to develop Living Well Warrington, which launched to the public in March 2025.

By prioritising connections, self-empowerment and proactive support, the platform aims to make lasting improvements in the lives of local residents, reducing reliance on crisis services and fostering a culture of prevention and resilience.

Our strategic vision in Warrington is to create a “go to” digital platform for residents to find information and service offers that reflects their individual health and wellbeing needs. Our partners unanimously chose Made Open from a shortlist of potential providers.

Our solution

A collaborative design process

The platform was co-designed with partners through workshops and one-to-one sessions.

Together, they considered how the platform could encourage prevention, reach those at higher risk and create a consistent and trusted Living Well identity across the borough.

Partners emphasised the need to make the platform easy to use, with a powerful search and accessible content. They looked ahead to future possibilities, including personalised user experiences, broader partner involvement and the ethical use of AI.

A collaborative design process

Looking ahead

Living Well Warrington is an evolving platform that will grow alongside the physical Living Well Hub.

Future developments will focus on providing better tools for professionals, offering more personalised experiences for residents and strengthening partnerships.

What best describes your community?

You selected: A community of place

Our community software empowers a diverse range of public and voluntary sector partnerships. We've designed it with a deep understanding of what holds communities back and how leaders can make them thrive.

Unfortunately, communities often go unnoticed, despite their potential to make a difference. Yet, in every community, there's a treasure trove of untapped knowledge and compassion. The secret is to embrace each member's unique contributions. Our software shifts the focus away from problems and challenges to the boundless value they bring.

Each platform connects members to the skills, knowledge, support and resources within their community - propelling them towards a brighter future.

You selected: A community of practice

In the quest for excellence, individuals and groups often struggle to access expertise when they need it most. What they may not realise is that a wealth of untapped skills and knowledge is readily available to help them.

Our software serves as the key to unlocking the full potential of your network or workforce. We believe that success, whether for individuals or groups, hinges on the effortless exchange of skills and knowledge.

Each platform allows members to share their ideas, skills and talents within their network - propelling everyone towards excellence.

You selected: A bit of both

Whether it’s nurturing a local community or a community of professionals, our software understands what holds people back and what tools are needed to help them make a difference.

In every community or network lies an abundance of skills, wisdom and compassion. The secret is to embrace each member’s distinctive contributions and empower them as drivers of change, not mere bystanders of it.

Our software connects members to the wealth of skills, knowledge, support and resources residing within their online community.

How big is your online community likely to be?

You selected: Less than 100 members.

Why not dip your toes into the water with our 'Entry' platform? This starter-level solution is perfect for smaller communities or pilot projects, offering the most budget-friendly licensing option available.

You selected: Less than 1,000 members.

This is normal. Why not choose our ‘Creator’ pricing model? It accommodates up to 1,200 members while keeping your costs at a minimum as you establish your online community. You can easily add more features, services and members at a later stage.

You selected: 1,000 to 10,000 members.

The choice of many thriving communities, our 'Innovator' pricing model is designed to propel your success. Supporting up to 3,000 members and with many extra features coming as standard, our account team can help you manage queries and requests from your expanding user base.

You selected: More than 10,000 members.

For large communities with high expectations, our 'Enterprise' pricing model is the perfect fit. It's ideal for scale-up communities seeking top-tier products and services from Made Open, with the added flexibility to collaborate with partners and request enhancements as needed.

You selected: I don't know.

That’s fine. Fledgling communities often have big dreams but lack the specifics to make them happen on day 1. Consider starting small with our 'Creator' pricing model and scale up as you achieve certain milestones. You could also buy extra time from our team who specialise in growing online communities.

Do you need assistance managing your platform?

You selected: We can manage this platform ourselves.

The good news is that this is the most affordable choice. Our ‘Entry’ and ‘Creator’ models are like do-it-yourself options. But if you need help along the way, help is still at hand. We provide many guides, webinars and group training sessions that you can be part of.

Do you need assistance managing your platform?

You selected: We could use some assistance getting started.

Except for our Entry model, where it's more self-service, our dedicated team will be with you every step of the way. You'll receive a tailored Welcome Pack, help with setting up your platform and personalised training to get you started. In a nutshell, we’ve got you covered!
