Loneliness is rising.
The Global State of Social Connections study (published by Meta / Gallup in 2023) suggests that nearly one in four people worldwide feel lonely.
We can all feel lonely sometimes, but prolonged and/or intense experiences of loneliness can have a negative affect on health and wellbeing. At Made Open, we're taking steps to reduce loneliness, foster social connections and nurture wellbeing in communities.

3. Foster mutual support
Timebanking is way for people to contribute their skills and time, and receive help in return. This builds a strong sense of community and shows that everyone's contributions are important.
4. Promote kindness through volunteering
Volunteering engages individuals in meaningful activities that benefit others, fostering a sense of purpose and fulfilment. It has been linked to better mental health, increased happiness and reduced stress levels.
5. Facilitate collaboration
Working together can boost morale, increase motivation and improve overall mental wellbeing. Team spaces can facilitate collaboration and improve communication, promoting a sense of belonging and collective achievement.
6. Help people reach their goals
Overcoming challenges builds resilience and self-confidence, which contribute to positive mental health. Having support to achieve your goals can increase motivation and lead to better outcomes.
7. Educate and inspire
Guides and learning programmes can provide people with access to valuable resources and information, empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their lifestyle choices and achieve their goals.
8. Give everyone a voice
Giving individuals a voice in decision-making processes can increase feelings of empowerment and belonging. Conversations and polls give community members and opportunity to voice their opinions and influence local decision-making.
9. Reward participation
Recognising and rewarding individuals for their contributions to the community promotes a sense of achievement and appreciation. Rewards and Badges help members feel valued and appreciated which can boost self-esteem and overall wellbeing.
10. Keep people informed
Feeling informed and connected to their community can reduce feelings of uncertainty and anxiety, promoting overall wellbeing. Notifications help to keep people engaged with relevant information and and communications.
