Staff training

Made Open is committed to helping staff to achieve their development goals. Annual reviews are an opportunity to review any training needs and to discuss how to make progress with your line manager.

Some examples of staff training:

Preparations before the starting day
  • Prepare contract of employment
  • Prepare direct debit/payroll form
  • Prepare tax and insurance documents
  • Invite new staff member to join the Made Open platform
  • Email links to the policies and values of Made Open on the website
  • Assign a supervisor and/or peer mentor
  • Send a copy of the staff handbook, including details on working times, parking/transport, dress code and attitude to online conduct
  • Provide a job description with roles, responsibilities as well as Made Open's social & environmental goals
Introduction to tools used
  • Walk through of the current platforms and projects
  • Introduction to the CMS (if necessary) and other workflow software/codes
  • Introduction to the process used with new clients/platforms
  • Overview of the project management tools and processes used and how they may differ between teams/clients
Orientation of the office
  • Showed the kitchen/bathroom/work areas
  • Given key and door code
  • Introduced to the overall 'year at Made Open' schedule
  • Given an opening 'appraisal' where clear goals are set for the probationary period
Meeting the team
  • Introduced to the directors
  • Introduced to the platform team
  • Introduced gradually to clients and platform owners via email and meetings
  • Introduced to any relevant freelancers or subcontractors
Access to necessary materials
  • Given wifi password
  • Given a company email account
  • Given CMS permission (if relevant)
  • Advised about virus protection and password security
  • Emailed a list of co-workers full names and email addresses
  • Invited to all relevant JIRA, Microsoft Teams, Google drive and other project management accounts
Evaluating your employee’s onboarding experience afterwards
  • 1 month in, ask the employee if they feel they need additional training to undertake their role
  • Plan check in meetings (weekly/fortnightly) with the new employee
  • At the end of the probationary period, ask the employee to submit the staff satisfaction survey (even if it means taking twice in one year)

Annual staff training plan

We use this document each year to ascertain what each staff member requires against their job role & responsibilities. Everyone in the team can also request specific training that they feel would benefit their career within Made Open.
