Giving demos to client
Every client learns differently. The common requirement for all platforms is that clients need to understand how to use the platform first as an individual and as an organisation, and then will need to learn how to manage or edit the platform through the CMS.
Some advice for giving demos to clients
As users:
- Make notes before the session about what you want to go through.
- Open up two browsers, one that you're logged into as an admin, and one that you can register as a user on.
- Start the session by checking how much experience they have with the platform and other common websites (like Google drive).
- Show the routes you're taking to find things clearly, talk through where you're clicking.
- Give advice for how to add content that is accessible to all, and for content that will be picked up by search engines.
- If you're creating profiles & activities, it might help to have some dummy content in a document ready to copy and paste in. You want to show how to make something look good, not just putting in 'test' or 'demo' in all the fields.
As admins:
- Start with the basic requirements of an admin, leave pages & guides to another session.
- Always show where they can find help on how to do things afterwards (the guides).
- Use the training to achieve something real (set up default admins, create filters, edit some listings etc).
- Show how you edit images, and where they can look for software.
- Show 'bad examples' and 'good examples'.
