The Giving Lab helps residents, organisations and service providers in Walworth work together to change how things are currently done.
The pilot platform is supported by The Social Innovation Partnership with support and sponsorship from the Wellcome Trust and Impact on Urban Health (a part of Guy's and St Thomas' Foundation).
The concept is for community members with local knowledge and lived experiences to step forward and work together; to create a better place to live, work and manage their money.
Evidence suggests that people living in lower income areas and from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities are more likely to suffer from poor health.
One reason for this is due to their day-to-day experiences such as living in poor housing, feeling unsatisfied at work or struggling to manage their money.
Open to the whole community, The Giving Lab funds local groups with good ideas. These groups are provided with additional tools, resources and support to make lasting changes - all within an honest, supportive and non-judgemental environment.
The ultimate aim of The Giving Lab is to delay people developing health problems that affect them for the rest of their life such as diabetes, asthma and high blood pressure by empowering people to take control of their lifestyles.
Over the last six months we've been building a new model for funding and Made Open's platform has been perfect for bringing different communities together in an online space. The functionality of the platform is exactly what we needed and it's great to know that there's so much more we can do with it.
